Welcome!

The ReSkilling Edmonton Network exists to connect skillful seniors with youth to share self-sufficiency skills in workshop and hands-on environments. We hope to create opportunities for skill-sharing events in the Edmonton community led by senior citizens.

We believe that in order to prepare for the challenges of peak oil, climate change, food insecurity, and economic uncertainty, we must turn to the wisdom of earlier generations and re-learn the skills of a less globalized era.

We need to learn how to preserve in-season foods, how to repair our clothing, how to do basic repairs around the home to save on heating bills, how to garden and sow seeds and not just grow a bunch of weeds, how to get more out of less, and we believe that the best way to learn this is through the wisdom of our seniors. The list of skills that can be shared is only limited to our imagination!

Many youth working towards social justice are very interested in having such learning opportunities. By learning how to do more with our hands, we are less dependent on unjust labour practices, unsustainable food systems, unsustainable global supply chains, unsustainable economic growth, and we become empowered to find ways of meeting our own needs locally.

The ReSkilling Edmonton Network will provide materials for the workshop, workshop assistants, a space to host the workshop in, promotion of the workshop and registration logistics, light refreshments for attendees, and whatever else may be required for a successful learning environment.

We hope to meet with interested seniors to assess how many attendees they think would work for a workshop, how long the workshop should be, what kind of facilities would be good to host the workshop at, and any other items for consideration prior to the workshop.

We look forwards to building a network of active seniors and youth who want to take action on climate change, sustainability, and social justice.

If you are interested in sharing some of your skills, or if you have any questions about the workshops, do get in touch.
